sand

beneath my feet

walking hand in hand

along a moonlit beach

laughter and small talk

with no cares

to think about

at the time

such a beautiful sunrise

viewed with sand underneath

as we hold hands

and speak of far off things

that make us smile

tiny toes and giggles

chased into the waves

that crash

and whisper all at once

upon the sand

and now it sits inside my head

and scares the hell out of me

as it seems to fall faster and faster

through the hourglass

that I was just handed

such an amazing transformation

from a beautiful thing

to the thing that determines

everything

sand.

in order to guard my heart

behind closed doors

wit

and deep conversation

it is easier to be surface with someone

than they never see how much they affect you

so don’t buy my jaded act

i do believe in love

the mosaic of life

intertwined at a terminal

shows the frailty

of the human life

we are all just one moment away

from not meaning anything

to anyone

yet we wear smiles

and cling

to things that will fade

all in an attempt

to matter

to anything or anyone

that can not

truly offer us

a lasting purpose.

I am the dissonant note
clumsily hit
by the left hand

the conductor winces
as i am played
tapping the baton
he asks to start again
hoping the badly played note
will be a one time occurrence
but it happens again
and
again
and
again

The baton gets clicked
less and less
the monotony of
my wrong tone
begins to become
a part of
the beautiful symphony being played
the brass is warm
and there i am
clinking and clanking
in what eventually
becomes the relief
from perfection
the resolution of the tension
